Learning to do things you hate will set you free.
There is a common belief in today's society that we should avoid things that we don't like.
This is the reason so many people fail to achieve the things they want in life.
To get where you want to go in life, you are going to have to do things that you hate.
There is no way around this.
You cant avoid this.
We now have blogs and books telling us to just follow your bliss and only do things you love.
Sure I see the big picture of what many of these people say, but I feel they create the wrong impression with a lot of people.
They let people think that we need to avoid the dirty work and things that are hard.
This is the problem. This is why we now have this culture of entitlement in modern culture.
This is especially widespread in the entrepreneurship circles.
Many people who start their own businesses are under the impression that they are going to become millionaires in 6 months.
When they find out this is an illusion they start looking for someone to blame and don't understand what happened.
They very soon find out that all the “dirty work” they outsourced to some guy in Pakistan was never done or was done very badly.
Because they avoided learning their craft by not doing the things they hate they never learned what it takes to build a business.
I have nothing against outsourcing, but you have to earn your right to outsource by doing the work yourself first.
In the area of health and fitness, I see the same mentality.
There are many guys are emailing me about fast ways to get strong or big.
They want the magic pill or quick fix.
They want a way to get the result without paying the price by doing things they hate.
Things, like eating clean, lifting weights, and getting up at 5, am to workout before work.
I see this in friendships and relationships.
People want to have friends or relationships, but don't want to do anything for their friends or girlfriends.
They want the good without the bad.
For example, I don't like getting up at on a Sunday morning to go hiking with my girlfriend, but sometimes I do to make my relationship work.
There is a reason that in most ancient societies up until modern times there have been male initiation rituals in groups of men.
We have these rituals in sports teams, fraternities, the military and even some companies.
They do it to teach young men that sometimes you need to pay the price to be part of something.
They teach you that you have to give first before you can receive and many times the giving is not going to be fun.
It's going to be unpleasant and painful.
However, the rewards will far outweigh the pain you went through.
In those moments of discomfort, you will build your character and become stronger and better as a man.
Those moments that you wanted to avoid will become the most important of your life.
Mental strength and resilience that can only be found in things that are unpleasant or painful.
Those very things you hate will give you strength and get you closer to the type of person you want to become.
One of the biggest reasons our society is falling apart is because many people only want to stay in their safe spaces and do things they like.
As soon as they get uncomfortable, they become a victim and scream for help and say they are being victimized. It's pathetic and harmful to society.
Enjoy your times of comfort and pleasure.
Those are great rewards for your hard work and perseverance.
However, you won't reach that point without sacrifice, hard work and pushing through the things you hate to do.
Start embracing the things you hate, and you will find the freedom you looking for a lot faster.
