This is a widespread problem in the world today.

As a society, we have become mentally week.

At the first sign of resistance, we run and we give up on whatever we want to achieve.

The Story We Tell Ourselves

What normally happens is this.

Someone has a vision or goal for his life.

In his mind, the goal is so big that if he achieves it he will never be the same again.

Also is in his mind is a fear that holds him back.

The fear is there because he knows one big truth

He knows that for him to get where he wants to go he will have to become someone else.

He will have to transform himself in this process of achieving his vision.

There is no other way.

The Reality Of Greatness

To achieve something great will ask a lot from you.

You will have to put in insane amounts of work on your goal and yourself.

You will have to do this consistently through ups and downs.

You will have to do this no matter how you feel or how the environment outside you are reacting to your actions.

You will have to grind away and work as you have never worked before.

You know this because you have already seen the mountain that you have to overcome to get where you want to go.

On this climb over this mountain, you will realize two important things.

The Mountain Is A Lot Bigger Than You Thought It Would Be.

When you start climbing a mountain you never realize how big this mountain is until you start climbing it.

You realize it's so much bigger than it looked from below.

It will almost feel impossible to climb all the way to the top.

You Will Realize You Are Starting To Enjoy The Fight.

The good news is once you have started the climb you will start enjoying the battle.

You will start waking up in the middle of the night ready to go to work.

The Big Problem.

The big problem is that most people don't make it this far.

They never start making that climb.

And they never get to enjoy the daily battles of going after something you feel strongly about.

Fear is poison and it makes millions of people around the world never make a move.

It makes millions of men around the world buy into fear.

How Do You Start This Journey?

I mentioned at the beginning of this article that we live in a culture of fear.

We have stopped teaching young men to fight for what they want.

We have stopped teaching them to expect resistance and that hardship is part of life.

So now we have millions of men buying into fear.

They believe in fear a lot more than they believe in themselves.

It's so easy to become great these days because most men give up.

If you can show a little fight and grit you can get what you want a lot easier than in the past.

By that I'm not saying it will be easy to achieve.

I'm saying that your competition will be a lot lower.

It will be low because most never step up and start this journey.

How To Go For It?

How do you get the courage to step up?

We go back to the ancient master of wisdom Lao Tzu who said:

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

Yes, it's that simple.

You take one step.

You take that one action.

Then you take the next one action.

Forget about the big picture and just do that one thing and then the next.

Take fitness for example.

So you want to run a marathon, join the military or just get in shape?

Whatever it is start with that one action.

So with fitness just wake up and put on your running shoes. That's one action or the one step.

Then one more step put on your running clothes.

Then one more by running out the door.

That's it.

You just take those small actions and you start adding them up.

Special Forces 5 Minutes

When potential Green Berets start the process of becoming a qualified Green Beret Special Forces Operator the journey looks impossible.

They have to finish nearly 2 years of selection and training to make it through and qualify.

They will go through some of the hardest military training in the world.

The Special Operations Training Schools have realized this reality.

So from an early stage of training, they tell operators to forget about the time frame and just focus on the next 5 minutes.

That is it.

Forget about weeks, months and years.

Get your mind in the here and now.

The next five minutes is all that matters.

You don't need to worry about the marathon.

Just put on your shoes and then take the next step.

Build a New Focus

Mindset is key in everything we do.

If we shift our mindset we can achieve anything we want.

However, you need to take conscious control of your mind and thoughts.

You need to work on keeping your focus on your goals but push it to the background.

Then form a new focus.

The new focus is for the next 5 minutes.

All you do is take the steps necessary in the next 5 min.

Build your self-discipline by forcing your self to focus on those 5 minutes and taking those steps.

Soon those minutes and steps will add up.

Before you know it you have climbed halfway up that mountain.

Before you know it you have transformed yourself into someone else by taking control of your most valuable asset.
